B

BIS

The short name for "Blackberry Internet Service" - this is the entry level connection option for Blackberry phone users. Typically offered for small business or consumer usage, it offers Internet Access. Users with BIS can use Agility Mail to sync e-mal "over the air" but can't do the same for contacts and calendars as you need BES For this. You can though use the Blackberry Desktop software to sync those items with Agility Mail. (This is a Blackberry restriction and not an Agility Mail issue).

BES

The short name for "Blackberry Enterprise Service" - this is the pro version for connectivity on a Blackberry phone. Typically offered for larger businesses but normally available to anyone with a Blackberry, it provides Internet Access & full sync and push e-mail with a Blackberry. Users with BES can use Agility Mail to sync e-mail, calendar and so on "over the air" and receive messages as soon as we get them. You need a BES subscription from your mobile provider AND an additional subscription to use this with Agility Mail (this is a Blackberry Limitation).

Blackberry

This is the brand name of a series of phones which are often used in Enterprises. Designed for use with E-Mail they're often considered the market leader in corporate and business mobile devices. Agility Mail supports Blackberry devices in various ways (which depend on your Blackberry subscriptions with your mobile providers and ourselves).

C

Cloud

A must abused term which is slowly becoming associated with any sort of "Hosted" Service where you rent access to services and resources provided via a Service Provider (such as us). Agility Mail is technically a "Cloud" service when considered in this way, although we call it "Hosted"..

D

Device

A general term used to describe some piece of equipment, usually electronic. With Agility Mail we refer to Mobile Phones and PDA systems as "Mobile Devices"

E

Entourage

Apple Mac users use a product called "Entourage" which is the equivalent to Outlook for PC/Windows users. Agility Mail allows use of this for Mac Users and like with Outlook, Agility Mail Pro users can have a copy of this free as long as they have the service.

Short for "Microsoft Exchange" this is the name of the product that provides Enterprise Messaging Services to most large companies and many small businesses too. Agility Mail is based on the Microsoft Exchange Enterprise architecture.

IMAP

IMAP is a protocol used for accessing E-Mail from some servers. Unlike POP-3, mail is kept on the server and can support "folders". IMAP isn't very popular by comparison to POP-3 but is a step up in many respects. Agility Mail supports IMAP but you won't get the full feature set, so we don't recommend it.

P

POP-3

The Post Office Protocol (POP) is an application-layer Internet standard protocol used by local e-mail clients to retrieve e-mail from a remote server over a TCP/IP connection. POP and IMAP (Internet Message Access Protocol) are the two most prevalent Internet standard protocols for e-mail retrieval. Virtually all modern e-mail clients and servers support both. The POP protocol has been developed through several versions, with version 3 (POP3) being the current standard. You can use Agility Mail with POP-3 Mail Clients but you won't get the full feature set, so we don't recommend it.

Agility Mail also supports collecting e-mail from your legacy/existing POP-3 Accounts and bringing them into the service in many cases. There is a small cost for this facility.
